Irving Farm Coffee Roasters Introduce
Irving Farm Coffee Roasters is a name synonymous with New York City's vibrant and discerning coffee culture. Since its establishment in 1996, starting from a neighborhood cafe on Irving Place, this local business has grown to become a well-respected specialty coffee roaster and cafe operator, committed to ethical sourcing, meticulous roasting in the Hudson Valley, and providing an exceptional cup to New Yorkers and visitors. The brand’s expansion, which now includes a presence in a major travel hub, allows a greater number of people to experience their dedication to quality, even when they are on the move.
The outpost at John F. Their core commitment—to provide fresh, carefully sourced, and expertly roasted coffee—remains the foundation of their offering, regardless of the location. Known for their house blends that are celebrated for balance and sweetness, as well as a curated selection of seasonal single-origin coffees, Irving Farm extends its reputation for excellence to the traveling public. Their status in the broader New York coffee scene is well-documented, having been pioneers in the local specialty coffee movement and maintaining high standards in the quality of beans they purchase and roast.

What is Worth Choosing
For New Yorkers accustomed to the competitive and high-quality coffee scene of the city, Irving Farm Coffee Roasters at JFK Terminal 7 offers a familiar and reliable choice, standing out from generic airport alternatives. The key factor that makes it a worthwhile stop is the established quality of their coffee. Irving Farm has a two-decade-plus history of roasting their beans upstate in Millerton, NY, prioritizing long-term, sustainable relationships with small producers worldwide. This commitment results in a product that consistently scores high marks in the specialty coffee industry—often above the 85-point quality threshold—and ensures a flavorful, rich, and well-balanced cup. Choosing Irving Farm means selecting a product that maintains a local New York standard of excellence, even in an otherwise transient setting.
The Great Tea Selection is also a strong point, providing travelers who prefer non-coffee options with an equally thoughtful and high-quality choice. Paired with a Quick bite or Dessert, it offers a satisfying and energizing refreshment.
However, it is also important for New Yorkers to be aware of the operational challenges that have been noted at this busy airport location. Customer reviews have, on occasion, highlighted significant issues regarding service speed and organizational flow, mentioning long wait times (upwards of 40 minutes) for orders, staff coordination problems, and reported instances of unhelpful attitudes, particularly during peak hours or moments of high demand. These anecdotal reports suggest that while the product quality (the coffee itself) is excellent, the service execution and crisis management can be inconsistent.
Given this, Irving Farm is worth choosing if you prioritize premium coffee quality above all else and have enough time to spare before your flight (e.g., more than an hour), or if you are willing to risk a longer wait for a better cup. The cafe’s intrinsic value lies in its product—a locally roasted, specialty coffee—which is a definite upgrade from standard airport fare. For travelers with very tight connection times or those who value speed and efficiency above all, the noted service difficulties are a factor to consider. Ultimately, it remains a pillar of New York specialty coffee culture, offering a taste of home on the cusp of your journey, but passengers should plan accordingly for potential delays in service.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely dreadful.+45 min wait for two coffees and one bagel. When i asked which order the worker was on, she responded that she "only works off names". I had to request a refund as flight was boarding and had no idea when i might receive my order. I received the same lazy attitude the worker had while attempting to fill orders. No care, no urgency, no consideration, no manners. When the manager arrived, it became clear why this worker's attitude was acceptable there.Pathetic.
August 03 · Mike TrollerOn June 8th, I ordered a cup of coffee and a croissant. The receipt printer in the store was broken, so I didn’t receive a receipt. The staff seemed unable to coordinate with each other, didn’t know which customers arrived first, and couldn’t figure out which items belonged to which orders. The whole situation was a mess.On top of that, the staff were rude and impatient. One of them even said, “Too many orders, I give up.” Their attitude was terrible, and they clearly couldn’t handle the situation. I ended up waiting 40 minutes for my order due to their poor organization and lack of crisis management. When I went to write this review, I noticed someone had complained about the exact same issue two weeks ago—yet nothing has changed. It’s clear they have no intention of improving. A restaurant that doesn’t care shouldn’t stay in business. Don’t waste your time here. Thanks.
June 08 · AndyYou’re at an airport people, you don’t think Starbucks reheats your food in a toaster oven too? Get over yourself, it wasn’t the best sandwich I’ve ever had but im at an airport not a gourmet restaurant.
June 19 · Corey BarnardTerrible experience — this place feels like a total scam.I came early in the morning and ordered a sandwich and coffee. The order took forever, and after a long wait, it was clear it wasn’t going to be fulfilled. A staff member asked for my order number and said they would issue a refund. However, over five days later, I still haven’t received it. I ended up having to dispute the charge with my credit card company to get my money back.Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place.
July 22 · Kevin L (YJ)One star review is not low enough. This place was a terrible tragedy. The line was enormous. You order off of an iPad and half the people ordering don’t speak English. So they are very confused and the line barely budges. I ordered a hot coffee no room and I get room. I ask to have it filled up and I get the most bombastic eye roll from my server. I then ask for a refill on my $7 coffee and he tells me “no we don’t do refills here…” my wife’s mocha was terrible as well. This terminal (7) in general is just awful. Maybe I’m salty all the lounges are in terminal 4 and 1… idk this place just feels trashy.
